KOSTA BODA SEAWEED VASES BY VICKE LINDSTRAND
Vintage Swedish Mid Century Modern Seaweed art glass vases by Sweden’s best glass artist Vicke Lindstrand for Kosta in 1962. These hand made vases are so unique in their own right. Vases are signed and numbered on their bases.

These beautifully tranquil pieces of art were made by the legendary Swedish glass designer, Vicke Lindstrand, from his Seaweed series, capturing the moment of motion – of seaweed gently lulling amongst the bubbles under clear water. It is like a photo but instead of being flat and two-dimensional, it is organically vibrant within the glass itself.

The captured vibrant green and deliberate bubbles are a wonderful example of the Mykene technique that Lindstrand developed in the 1930s. These vases demonstrated Lindstrand’s skill and master craftsmanship.

BIOGRAPHY OF THE ARTIST:
Vicke Lindstrand (1904-1983) was an uncompromising Swedish illustrator, ceramicist, painter, sculptor, glass and textile designer who came to prominence during the 1930s and 1950s through his work at the famous glass manufacturers Orrefors and later, Kosta Boda.
Lindstrand was considered a pioneer of Swedish glass art. Joining Orrefors in 1928, he pioneered more daring art glass designs, inventing the Ariel technique. He joined Kosta Blasbruk in 1950 as an artistic director where he was the dominant designer, lending his name to many, now classic, designs.

This is a set of 2 clear crystal vases, each with artful streaks of medium green reaching upwards from the base. The base and walls of both items are very thick crystal, up to 2 inches deep at the thickest point. It has great, controlled bubbles with an engraved fish on each side.
