Help save the forest in Cumberland, BC!

Date : April 10, 2020
Location : Vancouver, BC V6H 3S2

Let’s all make conservation history! Want to join me in making a difference?

I am raising funds and awareness to help the Cumberland Community Forest Society. Thank you for taking the time to read more about this cause.

This beautiful mature Coastal Douglas Fir forest is filled with diverse flora and fauna, at-risk species, salmon bearing creeks, wetlands and riparian areas, 2 watershed systems, important logging and mining heritage landmarks and a robust community trail network.

This ecologically rich area is filled with diverse aquatic and terrestrial species including the Little Brown Bat and the Red Legged Frog, both identified as species at risk. Fish species found in Perseverance Creek include Coho Salmon, Cutthroat Trout, Dolly Varden and sculpin species.

This forest is an integral part of both the Trent and Puntledge Watersheds, feeds Comox Lake, and forms a critical link in an extensive habitat corridor that connects mountains and lakes to the Salish Sea.

The Cumberland Forest is also privately owned as part of the legacy of the E&N Land Transfer in the 1870’s that saw over 2 million acres of land along the eastern side of Vancouver Island transfer into private hands in exchange for building a railway. This forest is all scheduled to be logged.

The finish line is in sight for the 226 acre land protection purchase in the Perseverance Watershed. We have until March 31st to raise the final $150,000 to close on this $2,386,000 project. This purchase will double the lands protected by the CCFS since they formed in the year 2000.

Common online community, we can do this!!

Any contributions can be made on the GoFundMe page for the Cumberland Community Forest or to the Cumberland Community Forest Society, thank you!
