Wanted: Remote Reading Mentors Needed

Description

Location : Joyce St, Vancouver, BC V5R 6C9

Learning Buddies Network is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping elementary school students develop essential literacy and math skills through free one on one, after school tutoring in a fun group setting. We reach children who otherwise would not have the help they need. Our goals are to enhance self-esteem through improvement in academic skills and to ignite a passion for learning in a safe and caring environment.

Mentor responsibilities include: attending math/ reading training, orientation, Mentor sessions, and Mentor meetings, completing Mentor reports, preparing lesson material for each session, tracking the student’s progress, reporting to Program Coordinators and Executive Coordinator, and assisting in volunteer recruitment.

For Fall, 2020, our programs will all be hosted online through Zoom or a similar platform. We are only able to offer our Reading program at this time. Buddies will still come from Elementary schools in the Lower Mainland, but specific dates for each school are still in the process of being confirmed. Our programs will run twice a week on either Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays with the following timeslots for mentors: 3:30 – 4:45 pm or 4:45 – 6:00 pm.

Here are the dates for this term:

· Mentor Training: Wed, Sept 16th 5-8pm
· Mentor Training (Backup): Tues, Sept 22nd 5-8pm
· Zoom Training: Thurs, Sept 24th 5-6pm
· Group Orientations: September 28th to October 2nd during your program’s timeslot

Programs tentatively begin on the week of October 5th.
