Teaching disadvantaged children in Ecuador

Description

Location : Vancouver, BC V6Z0C2

Volunteer in Ecuador with CADIP (www.cadip.org). This project benefits low income children and teenagers, whose parents are unable to provide them with sufficient care and attention at home. The project helps children ages 5 to 16 years old by providing a safe place where they can eat lunch, do their homework, watch TV, participate in recreational activities and sports, take computer lessons, join art workshops, and much more.
The volunteers will be helping the children with their homework and will support the staff in organising different recreational activities. The volunteers are expected to be able to teach or help with Math, English and some other subjects that the children are learning. At noon, the volunteers will assist in preparing and serving lunch for an estimated 100 children.

Special requirements: Basic knowledge of Spanish is required.

Duration of the project: The project is running during the school year, from September to June. Minimum committment required is 2 months, up to 10 months.

Accommodation: Accommodation is provided in local host families.

Location: Cuenca is the third-largest city in Ecuador and the capital of the Azuay Province. It is located in the Highlands, at about 2500 m above sea level. For its rich historical heritage, Cuenca was declared one of Ecuador’s three UNESCO World Heritage sites (the other two are Quito and the Galapagos Islands).
